Working Safely with VDUs - Overview |
|
 |
On the 1st January 1993, the EC Council
Directive 90/270 on the use of Display Screen
Equipment became UK law. The directive made it
the responsibility of employers to ensure that
anyone working with Display Screen Equipment is
protected from associated risk.
As a result, organisations are now required to
Train all employees in the safe use of
workstations and perform an ongoing analysis of
workstations to assess the health and safety
risks. They are also required to, remedy any
risks found and ensure compliance with minimum
technical requirements. |
|
|
|
There are numerous routes to compliance, but
some are actually creating more problems rather
than solving them. Full compliance with Health
and Safety (Display Screen Equipment)
Regulations using the traditional methods for
most organisations is extremely costly and
impractical.
PSI’s "Working Safely with VDUs" is a fully
customisable total solution to the key
requirements of the health and safety DSE
regulations 1992. Working Safely with VDUs is
easy to implement, low cost compared to
alternative methods and can work for your
organisation. The solution consists of 3 main
elements that offer a clear route through all
stages of compliance.

Workstation Risk Assessment |
|
 |
The solution simplifies the risk assessment
process. You are no longer required to assess
each employee, their workstations and their
working conditions directly. All staff would
simply complete a technology based
self-assessment questionnaire.
Training course access to this module is
provided directly from the user’s PC. The
self-assessment questionnaire is designed to
identify employees who are exposed to any health
and safety risks as a result of their DSE work.
The risk assessment questionnaire will also
identify if minimum regulatory requirements are
met. |

The solution takes away the time consuming task
of filling paper risk assessment forms for each
member of staff. As such it leaves you with more
time and resources to measure, track and reduce
risks in your organisation. Technology Based
Self-Assessment is available on both Windows and
INTRANET Platforms.
Target:
Display Screen Equipment Users, Office Workers
Platforms::
DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98,
Windows NT, Windows 2000, Intranet (UNIX and
Windows based servers)

Risk Management and Reporting |
|
 |
Providing training and collecting risk data is
only one aspect of the risk management process.
You need to be able to analyse the data
collected, quantify the risks, identify the
individuals exposed and devise an action plan. A
Powerful Reporting and Risk Assessment Database
is available to help you easily do all this and
more.
The Risk Management Reporter acts as a secure
central storage facility for all your DSE
related records. |
| |
It will help you collate and analyse the
information and maintain historical records of
all the training and the risk assessments taken
place in your organisation.
PSI’s Risk Management Reporter will help you
accurately assess and reduce the DSE related
risks. The system supports corrective measure
selection, scheduling and tracking giving you
total control over the implementation of any
remedial action required.
The Risk Management Reporter provides detailed
statistical analysis of data and is capable of
producing standard and ad-hoc reports such as
hazard reports, correlation reports and response
report for the whole organisation, departments
or individuals. These reports play a fundamental
role in identifying and reducing risks.
Platforms:
Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows
NT, Windows 2000
Network:
LAN, WAN
Database:
MS SQL Server, MS Access
